WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF PIN CODE?

We know that post offices distribute letters and other articles to different addresses throughout the country. The PIN code system is devised to facilitate sorting and to speed up the delivery of the posted articles. The word 'PIN' stands for postal index number. The PIN code system divides into eight postal index zones.

The PIN system consists of six digits. Each digit has a meaning and serves a specific purpose. The first digit on the extreme left represents the zone in the country. The second and third together represent the subzone and the manner of routing the mail.In this way, the first three digits together indicate the sorting district. The three digits on the right show the post office of delivery within a sorting district. All the six digits together identify an individual post office or delivery unit. For example, the PIN code 560025 represents ricmond town(E) in bangalore where the no.5 on the extreme left represents the zone and the no.025 on the right indicates the post office of delivery.
